Colorado Springs, Colo. –New Mexico’s Brodie Young is the Mountain West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for a second straight week, while Fresno State’s Ceonna Pipion earns MW Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honors, the Bulldogs’ first weekly award of the season.
Wyoming’s Daniel Reynolds picks up his fourth MW Men’s Field Athlete of the Week this year after another record-setting performance and San José State’s Simone Johnson garners MW Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Utah State’s Diego Aguirre-Stewart and Boise State’s Love Uzoekwe were named the MW Men’s and Women’s Freshmen of the Week, respectively.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE THE WEEK
BRODIE YOUNG, NEW MEXICO
Junior, Glasgow, Scotland/Lenzie Academy
- A week after running a personal-best in the 400m to set a UNM program record, broke that mark at the Don Kirby Invitational, running a raw time of 45.66 to win the event.
- The 45.77 converted time ranks second-best all-time in the Mountain West and currently ranks No. 9 in the country.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
DANIEL REYNOLDS, WYOMING
Senior, Granby, Colorado/Chadron State
- Recorded his fourth record setting mark of the season in winning the weight throw at the Don Kirby Invitational.
- His mark of 24.72 is a world record for two turn throws and is the fourth time he’s broke his own Wyoming and Mountain West records in the event.
- The distance, which ranks second in the NCAA this season, is also the No. 4 all-time throw in collegiate history.
MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
DIEGO AGUIRRE-STEWART, UTAH STATE
Freshman, Phoenix, Arizona/Millennium HS
- Clocked a 21.31 in the 200-meter race at the Tyson Invitational, which is the eighth-fastest in the Mountain West this season and fastest among MW freshmen.
- The mark also ties his career-best time in the event that ranks seventh in program history.
- Also finished sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.91.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
CEONNA PIPION, FRESNO STATE
Senior, Folsom, California/Vista Del Lago HS
- Clocked a time of 52.29 to win the 400-meter race at the Don Kirby Invitational, breaking her own program record in the event.
- The time is the third-fastest time in Mountain West history.
- Also helped the Bulldogs’ 4×400 take first and break a program record with a time of 3:36.47, besting the previous mark that had stood since 2016.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
SIMONE JOHNSON, SAN JOSE STATE
Graduate, Fresno, California/Central HS/Auburn
- Won the triple jump at the Don Kirby Invitational with a personal-best mark of 13.78m, which ranks No. 4 in the NCAA this season.
- Finished third in the long jump, also recording a personal-best of 6.25m with all five her attempts besting her previous career mark.
WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
LOVE UZOEKWE, BOISE STATE
Freshman, Portland, Oregon/Westview HS
- Competed in the 60-meter dash, the triple jump and the long jump at the Don Kirby Invitational, winning her flight in all three events and finishing eighth, 14th and 17th overall, respectively.
- Her 60m time of 7.53 is the third-fastest time in Boise State history, is 11th-fastest in the MW this season and third-fastest of any freshman.
- Set career-best marks of 5.81m in the long jump and 12.19m in the triple jump with the triple jump mark ranking seventh-best in the MW and best among MW freshmen.
