SAN JOSE, Calif. – No. 25 Utah State men’s basketball (15-1, 5-0 MW) earned a win in its first road game of 2025, using double-digit scoring outings from five different players to defeat San José State 85-78 at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.

Utah State led for over 36 minutes in this one, but were pushed to the end in a resilient road win. A strong shooting performance by the Aggies and strong defense in the final stretch helped secure the victory.

The game got off to a high-scoring start as the sides exchanged buckets at an efficient rate, combining to connect on 18 of the first 26 shots of the night. The Aggie offense early on was sparked by sophomore forward Tucker Anderson, who delivered three 3-pointers in the first five minutes. The sides remained close until a 10-0 Aggie run gave USU an 11-point lead.

At the halftime break, Utah State maintained a 45-36 lead, shooting 54.3 percent (19-of-35) from the floor through the first 20 minutes and posting a dominant 22-10 advantage on the glass.

The Aggies led for the entirety of the second half, but San José State kept the game within punching distance. The Spartans eventually knotted things up at 69-69 with six minutes to play, but the tie was short-lived as Utah State responded with seven-straight points.

From that point on, USU forced San José State into 14 misses on its final 15 shots of the night. The Spartan offense which was shooting 14-of-25 from deep through the first 34 minutes was held to 0-of-8 down the homestretch.

Leading the Aggies in the scoring column was sophomore guard Mason Falslev, who tallied 17 points while also tying the team lead in both rebounds and assists with seven and four, respectively.

Other double-figure scorers for USU include Anderson, who finished with 15 points, fifth year guard Ian Martinez with 14 points, senior guard Deyton Albury with 13 points and sophomore forward Karson Templin with 10 points.

Along with his 10 points, Templin also finished with a team-high-tying seven boards. In total, Utah State recorded 40 rebounds to San José State’s 34, including 17 on the offensive glass.

The Aggies dominated down low, out-scoring the Spartans in the paint 46-20.

Utah State shot 51.5 percent (34-of-66) from the floor, 37.5 percent (9-of-24) from behind the 3-point arc and 50.0 percent (8-of-16) at the free throw line. San José State finished the night shooting 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from the field, 42.2 percent (14-of-33) from 3-point range and 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the free throw line.
