LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV Lady Rebels’ assistant coach Karlie Burris has been selected to participate in the 2025 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Next Generation Institute, the organization announced Wednesday.
Burris, who is in her fourth season with the Scarlet & Gray, is the only Mountain West assistant coach to be selected to the high-level education program for experienced assistant coaches who aspire to become collegiate head coaches.
She works mainly with the post players, and in just her first two seasons with the program, built UNLV’s post rotation into one of the most dynamic and dominant in Division I college basketball. Burris arrived in Las Vegas in May 2021 and in just that season, she coached then-sophomores Desi-Rae Young and Nneka Obiazor to Mountain West Player of the Year and Sixth Player of the Year honors, respectively. Young was also the Mountain West Championship MVP in 2023, Mountain West 2024 Player of the Year and became the first player in two decades to earn WBCA All-America honorable mention.
Now in its third year, the Next Generation Institute curriculum focuses on the CEO attributes needed to lead a program and be a problem-solver in today’s ever-changing landscape of higher education and the enterprise of intercollegiate athletics.
To be eligible for selection to participate in the program, a person must be a current WBCA member, must have at least five years’ experience as a college assistant coach, and must have been nominated by their head coach. The Institute is held in conjunction with the WBCA Convention, which this year takes place April 3-6 in Tampa.
The Lady Rebels will make their final non-conference road trip to Chicago, beginning with a game at DePaul on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 12 p.m. PT/2 p.m. CT.
