COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San José State’s Hennie Van Schaik was tabbed the Mountain West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while San Diego State’s Nat Martinez collected the MW Freshman of the Week nod.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

HENNIE VAN SCHAIK, SAN JOSÉ STATE

Senior, F/C, Urk, Netherlands/CSU Bakersfield/Louisville

  • Led the Spartans to a pair of wins over Kennesaw State (68-64) and CSUN (62-44).
  • Averaged 12.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game.
  • Against Kennesaw State, recorded 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks and one steal.
  • Against CSUN, tallied a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Also contributed four assists for the Spartans.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

NAT MARTINEZ, SAN DIEGO STATE

Guard, San Leandro, California/Piedmont HS

  • Helped the Aztecs to a pair of victories over California Baptist (78-66) and CSU Bakersfield (88-46) to keep SDSU undefeated on the season.
  • Averaged 10.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game; the rookie shot 46.2 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line on the week.
  • At California Baptist, logged eight points, five assists, one board, one block and one steal.
  • At CSU Bakersfield, totaled 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal.
