Reno, Nev. – The Wolf Pack earned a hard-earned win in the Lawlor Event Center tonight against the Washington Huskies, coming out with a 63-53 Win. The Wolf Pack are off to an incredible 2-0 start to the non-conference schedule. This win also marks the Wolf Pack’s first-ever Big 10 Conference win in the Lawlor Event Center.
The Wolf Pack led the game off to a great start, beginning with an 11-4 run before the first media timeout. Throughout the first half, many runs came about for the Wolf Pack. However, due to many questionable shots and bad turnovers, the Huskies fought back to cut the score by only two going into the second half at 31-29.
The Huskies’ charge in the first half was led by Luis Kortright, who scored 7 points, two rebounds, and two assists off the bench. The Huskies’ bench outscored the Wolf Pack’s bench 20 to 16. Throughout the game, the Huskies were led by Ihenacho, who ended the game with 15 points, three rebounds, and 2 Assists on 70 percent shooting from the field and 33 percent from three-point range on three attempts.
The Huskies fought hard, starting the second to eventually go up two points with seven minutes left to end the game. However, the Wolf Pack started to gain momentum with a couple of big plays from players all around on both sides of the floor, eventually creating an excellent separation to pull out the win. A significant contributing factor to the separation in the second half was the Wolf Pack shooting 71.4 percent, making 15 free throws on 21 attempts to their six total free throws in the second half. Another significant contribution was beating the Huskies on paint points, second chance points, and fast break points, holding the Huskies to 32 percent from the three-point line on 22 attempts.
Sanders has logged his second straight 20-point game for the Wolf Pack. He also had four rebounds, five assists, one block, and one steal.
Davidson had a great game, tallying 14 points, nine rebounds, and a block while holding their best player, Great Osobor, to 3 points and five turnovers, going 0-7 in 30 minutes of play.
Tre Coleman had an excellent performance, tallying 10 points, four rebounds, and a steal on 37 percent shooting from the field.
Rolison gave the Wolf Pack tremendous minutes off the bench, tallying 9 points and three rebounds on 67% shooting from the field.
Hymes also gave the Wolf Pack great production off the bench, tallying 5 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
With the win in Lawlor, the Wolf Pack look to keep the momentum rolling into their third home game of the season against the Weber State Wildcats on Wednesday, November 13th. The game will be broadcast on NSN, with play-by-play being presented by John Ramey and Len Stevens. The radio broadcast audio is simulcast on the network for both radio and TV audiences on NSN.
