BOISE, Idaho – Boise State earned the highest College Football Playoff ranking in program and Mountain West history as the selection committee placed the Broncos No. 12 in the first rankings of the 2024 season. The Broncos’ previous high, No. 19, was achieved on three occasions, most recently in the final poll of the 2019 season. That also marked the last time the CFP rankings featured Boise State. The Broncos have now been included in 21 editions since it began in 2014.

Boise State and Army (No. 25) are the only Group of 5 teams ranked by the CFP committee. With their No. 12 spot, the Broncos become the highest-ranked G5 team in the initial CFP poll since Cincinnati was tabbed No. 6 in the first edition of the 2021 season.

This season, the Broncos have one of the nation’s top offenses, ranking third in the nation with 45.8 points per game and fourth-nationally with 509.1 yards per game. The defense averages an FBS-high 4.75 sacks per game and records 8.7 tackles for loss per game, ranking fourth in the country.

This will be the first year of the expanded College Football Playoff, with 12 teams garnering inclusion. The 12 teams will be the five highest-ranked conference champions followed by the next seven highest-ranked teams. The four highest-ranked conference champions will receive a first-round bye.

Boise State (7-1, 4-0 MW) hosts Nevada (3-7, 0-4 MW) on Nov. 9 for another sellout at Albertsons Stadium. The Broncos and Wolf Pack will kick off at 6 p.m. with the game airing nationally on FOX.

Led by Spencer Danielson in his first full season, Boise State looks to become the first Mountain West program to win back-to-back championships since San Diego State did so in 2015-16. Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
