LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV football, which has won its first four games of a season for the first time since America’s Bicentennial, is ranked by the Associated Press for the first time as a Division I program, coming in at No. 25 on Sunday.
The Rebels also held steady at No. 23 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.
UNLV opened Mountain West play by defeating Fresno State 59-14 on Saturday, marking the most points in program history vs. a league opponent in a regulation game. Earlier in the season, second-year head coach Barry Odom‘s squad became the first non-conference team in history to win more than one game in the same season at Big 12 Conference opponents (won at Houston and at Kansas).
UNLV, which was ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation as a member of the NCAA Division II, moved up to Division I in 1978.
