BOISE, Idaho – Boise State junior forward Tyson Degenhart has received one of the nation’s highest honors. The Spokane, Wash., native has been named a CSC First Team Academic All-American – which makes him only the second player in program history to receive the honor.
Degenhart is joined on the first team by Max Abmas (Texas), Brandon Angel (Stanford), Marcus Domask (Illinois) and Cam Spencer (UConn). Degenhart is the only junior on the first team.
Matt Nelson is the only other player in program history to earn Academic All-America honors – he was named to the third team in 2007-08.
Voting is conducted by members of the Collegiate Sports Communicators organization.
The 2023-24 season was a banner year for Degenhart. He was a first-team All-Mountain West and All-NABC District 17 selection while averaging 16.7 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game. His 534 points on the season is the 12th-highest total in a single season in program history, and he had 12, 20-point games and four double-doubles.
One of the nation’s elite efficient shooters, Degenhart is the first player in program history to shoot at least 50% from the field in three-straight seasons. He was nationally ranked this season in free throws, free throw attempts and free throw percentage. Degenhart moved into 13th on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,361 points. He is 584 points away from becoming the school’s all-time leading scorer.
Degenhart holds a 3.954 GPA while pursuing a degree in business. He led the Broncos to a tie for second place in the Mountain West standings, as well as the third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Boise State is set to return starters Degenhart, Chibuzo Agbo, Roddie Anderson III and O’Mar Stanley from last season’s 22-11 team. Agbo and Stanley also earned All-Mountain West recognition, while the Broncos have added rising senior Alvaro Cardenas in the portal. The addition of Cardenas gives Boise State four of Bart Torvik’s top eight returning players in the conference.
