SAN DIEGO — Behind Jaedon LeDee’s eleventh double-double of the season, San Diego State defeated San Jose State 72-64 on Tuesday night. The victory extends the Aztecs’ home winning streak to 20 consecutive wins, the second-longest active streak in the country and third longest in program history.
The defending regular-season and MW Tournament champion Aztecs (22-7, 11-5 Mountain West) beat the Spartans (9-20, 2-14 MW) for the 13th straight time to remain just behind conference co-leaders Utah State and Boise State in the conference standings.
LeDee helped the Aztecs to a 52-35 lead midway through the second half before the Spartans clawed back to 57-52. LeDee rebounded Micah Parrish’s missed 3-pointer and then had a steal and slam dunk as part of a three-point play to give SDSU a 62-54 advantage.
A 3-pointer by San Jose State’s Alvaro Cardenas and a putback by Latrell Davis pulled the Spartans to 64-60 with 2:20 to go. However, the Aztecs made six free throws in the final 31 seconds to seal the game.
On the heels of being named to the 2023-24 Oscar Robertson Trophy and All-American Watch Lists, LeDee scored 27 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for his eleventh double-double of the season. His 11 double-doubles for the season matches the most by an Aztec in a single season since Jamaal Franklin recorded 12 during the 2013 campaign.
Elijah Saunders added 10 points as the team’s second highest scorer on the night. Darrion Trammell had a game-high, and season-high, eight assists.
San Diego State is off this weekend, returning to game action next Tuesday on the road at UNLV.
