MW Cross Country Athletes of the Week - Sept. 8

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Wyoming’s Eowyn Dalbec and Habtamu Wetzel have been named the Mountain West Women’s and Men’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, with Wetzel also earning the MW Men’s Freshman of the Week honors. Hawai’i’s Atarah Robinson was tabbed the MW Women’s Freshman of the Week.
 
WOMEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
EOWYN DALBEC, WYOMING
Senior, Peyton, Colorado/Petyon HS 
  • Finished first in the 5k at the Wyoming Invite with a time of 17:38.0, finishing 72 seconds faster than she did at the same event last fall.
  • Finished ahead of every runner from No. 18 Colorado.
  • Helped lead the Cowgirls to a team victory with a perfect score of 15.
WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ATARAH ROBINSON, HAWAI’I
Venice, Florida/Venice HS 
  • In her collegiate debut, finished third at the Big Wave Invitational with a time of 18:54.40.
  • Part of a Hawai’i squad that swept the top six spots in the 5k race.
  • One of three UH runners with a sub-19 minute time on the hill-heavy course.
MEN’S ATHLETE & FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
HABTAMU WETZEL, WYOMING
Freshman, Afton, Wyoming/Star Valley HS
  • Won the 5k at the Wyoming Invite with a personal-best time of 15:15.5, more than 10 seconds ahead of the next fastest finisher.
  • Finished ahead of every member of No. 6 Colorado and bested his previous personal best by 26 seconds.
  • Led the Cowboys to a second-place finish.
