LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Mountain West preseason men's and women's favorite New Mexico will begin the 2026 campaign ranked No. 2 in the nation in the USTFCCCA Preseason Coaches Poll, marking the first time in school history both programs are ranked in the top two at the same time to start the year. 

This is the second straight year the Lobo men have kicked off the new season at No. 2 in the nation, matching the highest ranking in program history from a year ago, while this is the Lobo women's highest ranking since 2022. It's the 10th time the women have began the year in the top four.

Both squads are coming off a top-five finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships last fall with the men taking second as a team and the women fourth. 

Joining the New Mexico men in the initial poll were the Air Force men, who checked in at No. 23.
