CARLSBAD, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – Matching even-par 72 scorecards from seniors Mayumi Umezu and McKenzi Hall highlighted the UNLV women’s golf team’s second round at the NCAA Championships Saturday at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa (Par 72, 6,330 yards).
SENIOR DUO: Umezu dropped a team-high four birdies on the day, each of which came on six of the final nine holes (holes 1-9), and heads into the third round currently among the top nine players from teams not in the top-15 cut line who will advance to an additional round of stroke play after 54 holes. Hall, meanwhile, went bogey free on the same last nine, made par on 15 straight holes to end the round and had a birdie on her first hole.
REBEL ROUNDUP: With their rounds, Umezu (+1) moved 22 spots up the individual standings into a tie for 24th and Hall (+5) jumped 44 spots into a tie for 67th. Rounding out the Scarlet & Gray lineup, Zi Yu Foong (+10) is tied for 126th, followed by senior Hina Matsui (+20) and sophomore Amber Chen (+20) in a tie for 152nd.
LEADERBOARD: Stanford took over the lead at 5-under 571 through 36 holes after a 10-under 278 second round. Averi Weed from Mississippi State followed suit and grabbed the individual lead at 7-under 137 behind a 4-under 68 on the day.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will tee off in Sunday’s third round beginning at 1:40 p.m. PT.
