Rams forward adds to the collection of preseason accolades.
The Katrina McClain Award, now in its eighth year, recognizes the top power forwards in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball. It is named after the two-time All-American, 1987 National Player of the Year, and Class of 2012 Hall of Famer. The winner joins the Naismith Starting 5 at the end of the season.
Ronsiek – who was named the Mountain West Co-Preseason Player of the Year and Preseason Newcomer of the Year – continues to build upon her already impressive resume that includes two All-BIG EAST First Team awards in her four-year career at Creighton. In her Colorado State debut on Tuesday, the Sioux Falls, S.D., native logged a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double to lead the Rams in both categories in their exhibition win over Regis.
Also on the watch list for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award, Ronsiek averaged 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 blocks per game during her senior campaign with the Bluejays. Ronsiek has averaged more than 13 points per game in each of her last three seasons and owns a 14.1 points per game average over her career.
A seasoned veteran at the NCAA Division I level, Ronsiek has started 109 of her 115 games played and helped Creighton win 81 games during her four years with the program. Ronsiek has scored 1,622 points across her collegiate career, reaching double figures in 79 games and scoring 20-or-more points on 28 occasions.
