BOISE, Idaho – Ashton Jeanty ran for 259 yards and four touchdowns – two of which were longer than 50 yards – and the No. 25 Boise State defense was suffocating against one of the most dynamic offenses in the nation in a 45-24 win over Washington State Saturday night.
The junior running back totaled over 250 yards for the second time on the season, and tied the program’s record for most 200 yard rushing performances as a Bronco (four). Jeanty moved to 34 touchdowns in his career, moving into eighth-place all-time in program history.
Defensively, the Broncos (3-1) stifled the Cougar (4-1) offense, notching seven sacks against a team that entered the contest only allowing five total sacks on the year. Boise State held Washington State to 89 yards on the ground, its lowest total of the season.
The victory over Washington State marks the program’s first victory over a Pac-12 opponent since a 38-28 win over Oregon in the 2017 Las Vegas Bowl. The 21-point margin victory is the largest victory over a Pac-12 opponent since the Broncos defeated Arizona State on Dec. 22, 2011.
Jeanty scored the first of his two 50+ yard touchdown rushes on the opening drive, finding the end zone from 64 yards out minutes into the contest. After his second touchdown in the second quarter, the junior notched his second 50-yard score of the night in the fourth quarter, racing in from 59 yards out to give Boise State a 31-17 advantage. He added his fourth touchdown on the ensuing drive from two yards out to give the Blue and Orange a 28-point lead.
Matt Lauter had a career-performance for the second-straight week, recording a career-high 95 yards and hauling in two touchdown scores. The redshirt junior tight end recorded 72 yards after contact in the contest.
