AROUND THE MOUNTAIN WEST

• The Mountain West is celebrating its 25th season of women’s basketball during the 2023-24 campaign. 

• Heading into the second week of the 2023-24 season, UNLV is receiving votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Poll. 

• Three Mountain West women’s basketball players have been named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watchlist (McKenna Hofschild, Colorado State, Desi-Rae Young, UNLV and Allyson Fertig, Wyoming). 

• Colorado State’s McKenna Hofschild has also been named to the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year watchlist.  

• Five women’s basketball teams (New Mexico, Colorado State, Fresno State, UNLV and Boise State) are undefeated after week one of the 2023-24 season.  

• The Mountain West had four teams (UNLV, Colorado State, San Diego State and Wyoming) in the NET top-100 in 2022-23.

• UNLV represented the Mountain West in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. 

• Four Mountain West programs (Wyoming, New Mexico, San Diego State and Colorado State) made appearances in the 2023 WNIT.
