COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced its 2023-24 Women’s Golf All-Conference teams, as well as MW Women’s Golfer of the Year, MW Women’s Golf Freshman of the Year and MW Women’s Golf Coach of the Year, as voted on by the league’s nine head coaches.

San José State fifth-year player Kajsa Arwefjäll was named MW Women’s Golfer of the Year for the second straight season, while Colorado State’s Kara Kaneshiro earned MW Women’s Golf Freshman of the Year honors. Dana Dormann, who led San José State to the MW championship and a top-25 national ranking, was selected as the MW Women’s Golf Coach of the Year.

The Spartans have claimed the MW Women’s Golfer of the Year honor in five of the last six years and six times overall. Ranked 18th nationally, Arwejfäll has won two straight tournaments entering NCAA regional play, as she claimed medalist honors at the Chevron Silverado Showdown to close the regular season before winning the Mountain West Women’s Golf Championship thanks to a final-round 6-under-par 66. The Hollviken, Sweden, native has turned in seven top-10 finishes in eight stroke-play events this season, including a runner-up effort at the Molly Collegiate Invitational in the fall to complement her pair of victories. Arwejfäll, who boasts a league-best 69.2 adjusted scoring average, has helped the Spartans to a No. 25 national ranking and six top-four finishes, including the team title at the MW championship. She and the Spartans will compete at the NCAA Cle Elum Regional, which will take place in Cle Elum, Washington, from May 6-8.

Kaneshiro becomes Colorado State’s second MW Freshman of the Year selection and first since Mayumi Motoyama claimed the award in 1999-2000, the Conference’s inaugural year. Kaneshiro, who tied for 15th at the MW championship, has turned in seven top-25 showings in 10 events so far this season. The Honolulu, Hawai‘i, native opened her collegiate career by claiming MW Freshman of the Month honors for September, highlighted by her fifth-place finish at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic, and added weekly rookie honors four times in the spring. Kaneshiro, who has a 72.7 adjusted scoring average according to Scoreboard powered by Clippd, has helped CSU to seven top-five team finishes, including wins at the Fresno State Classic, Tulane Classic and Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic and a third-place finish at the MW championship. The Rams will make their first NCAA regional appearance since 2010 when they compete at the NCAA Las Vegas Regional on May 6-8.

Dormann collects her third MW Coach of the Year honor in her six years of helming the program after leading San José State back to the postseason for the fifth straight season in which NCAA regionals were held. Dormann, whose squad is seeded fifth at the NCAA Cle Elum Regional, turned in a dominant victory at the MW Women’s Golf Championship this season, finishing with a tournament-record total of 17-under 847 for an 18-stroke win, the fourth-largest margin of victory in tournament history. The Spartans’ final-round 9-under 279 matched the fourth-best round in tournament history and propelled SJSU to its second MW title in program history and second in three years. Dormann’s squad has appeared in the top 30 all season and enters postseason play ranked No. 25 nationally. Dormann’s MW Coach of the Year honor is the fourth for the Spartans, who also saw John Dormann claim the award in 2016-17.
